hiiii friend,

when it comes to social media, one conversation i see circulating all the time is around what platforms you should be posting on.

you might have been tripped up by this, too. there’s this misunderstanding that if you’re going to post multiple places, you need a separate strategy for each one.

the problem with this? if you are posting consistently on one platform, you know that the reality of putting different content on multiple platforms is a really tough ask. most of us find it hard to show up with consistency and get results on one platform alone.

so let’s talk about how to figure out where you should put your focus. because we all have limited resources and we want to feel like we are using them well.

a huge myth about where your audience is

i hear this all the time - ‘go where your audience is.’ as if only certain types of people are on certain platforms.

guys, cmon, this is just not true.

personally, i use instagram, tiktok, facebook, youtube and linkedin frequently. and if you were to box me into the stereotype that's meant to use each of those, you'd be saying i'm a gen alpha on tiktok, an aesthetic-worried millennial on instagram, a grandma on facebook, a tech bro on youtube (idk what the youtube stereotype is, lol), and an old white man on linkedin.

i'm pretty sure i don't identify with any of those.

the truth is that platforms aren't little communities of one demographic. everyone is everywhere. the reason the platforms are alive and well is because they cater to each person's interests.

‘but not enough of my target demo is on [whatever platform]’

alright, for the sake of argument, let’s take that (untrue) assumption on……..
